Rooted in Rhythm, Grown Through Purpose: What Makes Us Camphill at Sturts

At Sturts Community Trust, the Camphill spirit is not a concept—it’s a daily practice. It’s found in muddy boots, early morning milking, shared cups of tea, and the quiet satisfaction of a job well done. It lives in the rhythm of our days and in the relationships we nurture—with each other, with the land, and with the animals we care for.

Across Sturts Farm and Gullivers Farm Shop & Kitchen, our way of life reflects the heart of Camphill: creating spaces where every person is valued, every task has purpose, and community is built through meaningful work. The changing seasons guide us. Whether it’s sowing seeds, harvesting vegetables, or preparing the land for rest, we move in tune with nature—and with each other.

Our animals are central to this. The care of our Shorthorn dairy cows, pigs, hens, and other livestock is shared between staff and the people we support. These relationships are built slowly and respectfully—through feeding, mucking out, gentle handling, and the quiet moments in between. Working with animals offers responsibility, calm, and connection, while also producing food that sustains both our community and our shop.

At Gullivers, shelves are filled with biodynamic vegetables, organic eggs, fresh milk, and ethically raised meat—each product the result of teamwork, care, and shared pride. But more than that, the shop is a meeting place between community and enterprise, a space where people with varying support needs are seen not for their limitations but for their contributions.

To be Camphill is to believe in the dignity of meaningful work, the power of community, and the beauty of a life lived in rhythm with nature. At Sturts, we don’t rush—we walk the land, work the land, and grow with the land. And in doing so, we create a place where everyone can belong.
