West Moors FarmFest 2024 charity partners

You might remember West Moors FarmFest, the non-profit family friendly festival in Dorset, put a call out for applications for a chance to be its local charity partner. Well, for 2024’s festival, the team has chosen to support… Verwood Youth and Community Centre, also known as The Hive!

This brilliant community organisation, alongside Sturts Community Trust – a charity supporting adults living with learning and physical disabilities – will receive vital funds raised by West Moors FarmFest.

Making a difference in the community

Emma Payne, Youth Worker + Manager at The Hive tells us: “We are absolutely thrilled to be announced as this year’s West Moors FarmFest charity partner. The money we receive will go towards our garden renovation project.”

She continues, “Every year we grow a selection of vegetables and sunflowers. The young people grow the produce then learn how to cook with it. The garden renovation will make it more accessible for the community, including raised beds, a sensory herb garden and seating area. The space has been designed by young people, for young people.”

We asked Verwood Youth Club…

What does The Hive mean to you?

“It’s somewhere to socialise, something to do, somewhere for support and somewhere to buy sweets and drinks.”

What’s it like to be picked as this year’s West Moors FarmFest charity partner?

“Very splendid!”

Some of the money raised will go towards your new community garden. what do you think about this?

“It’ll be really good for the garden. Lots of people like to use it in the summer. It’s good for our wellbeing.”

What one thing could we all do to make the world a better place?

We couldn’t limit it to one. Here are four ideas.

• Everyone should recycle more

• Make dogs immortal

• 10p Freddos for everyone

• More kindness

The Hive, Verwood Youth and Community Centre is open four nights a week.

• Monday: Year 7

• Tuesday: SEN

• Wednesday: Seniors (year 9 and up)

• Thursday: Year 8
